Even a Small Pebble Can Create Ripples!
Whether we feel like it or not, each one of our lives holds great significance. We have been given a sphere of influence that no other person has been assigned to. In other words, you can reach people that I will never have the opportunity to reach, and vice versa. No matter our occupation in life or the outward successes we may or may not have attained, we all have impact on those around us!
Websters Dictionary defines impact as: the force of impression of one thing on another: a significant or major effect.
I love that definition …the force of impression of one thing on another! We have the ability to leave an impression on others by our very presence.
I don’t know of anyone who as a kid didn’t learn how to skip rocks across a lake or pond. I remember competing to see whose rock would travel the farthest along the surface before sinking. I also remember taking handfuls of pebbles and watching them plummet to the bottom. Even the smallest pebbles can change the surface of the tranquil water. As the stone hits the surface and begins to fall to the bottom, a small splash occurs and a wave forms in a circle pushing outwards from the point of impact creating ripples. Depending on the force behind the pebble as it hits the water there can be multiple ripples that radiate out from the center point.
One stone, one action, one life has the ability to create what is known as the ripple effect. The initial impression made on another not only has an effect on that one person, but the effect just like on the surface of the water travels continuing outward. Great and small, we all impact those around us and have an effect on those around us. Jesus declares that we are the light of the world and admonishes us to shine brighter and brighter!
“Your lives light up the world. For how can you hide a city that stands on a hilltop? And who would light a lamp and then hide it in an obscure place? Instead, it’s placed where everyone in the house can benefit from its light. So don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others, so that your works will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 TPT
As we are faithful to shine brightly before others, and steward the little that God has entrusted to us, He will see to it that our sphere of influence is enlarged and our impact is increased.
Faithfulness in what seems insignificant is the test each of us is given. Will we continue to shine with the love of Christ when it seems like there is no effect? Will we give up because we don’t see the impact of what we are doing? Or will we continue knowing that one person can have the influence to shift an entire nation…but often times it begins with just one person at a time. We never know the impact one life can make when we simply allow our light to shine.
Remember, even a small pebble can create ripples!
